I turned 10! My friends donated money towards the Maui dolphins instead of presents. So with their help we donated another $154 to save the Maui dolphins in New Zealand. I love my friends!

There are only about 45 Maui's Dolphins left. I have been spreading the word and fundraising since I was 7. I'm almost 10 years old. Can you please stop carrying New Zealand fish? We want you to stop because by using fish from New Zealand you are encouraging and supporting the New Zealand fishing industry and government. We need full protection for the dolphins so they can live. The New Zealand government and fishing industry are ignoring the science, overlooking the Maui's dolphins, and NOT doing ALL THAT THEY CAN to save them.

With the help of Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots grant, I was able to get tote bags, stickers, bookmarks, and tshirts. I also brought these with me to a presentation I did locally and raised a lot of money for the Maui dolphins! 

I donated $320 in cash that people have given me for the dolphins. Kiwanis of Bowling Green also gave me $100 check for NABU International, and so far, my tshirt sales have also raised $108! That is a total of $528 for the Maui dolphins!

With the grant money I was awarded from Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots for my Maui Dolphin project, I purchased fundraising materials: 10 Tote bags, 500 stickers, and 250 bookmarks. I helped design a coloring page also. We will print the coloring pages and give them out to help spread the word.

I have a presentation and am doing interviews over the next week about the Maui Dolphins. I plan to fundraise with these items to raise money for the Maui Dolphins on behalf of NABU International and Dr. Barbara Maas.

I recently started reading Moby Dick. Scott Leonard, one of our friends on Nantucket involved with the Nantucket Marine Mammal Conservation Program, sent me two books, one was; Why Read Moby-Dick? by Nathaniel Philbrick (author of In The Heart of The Sea), and a special 150th anniversary edition of Moby-Dick that includes footnotes throughout the book. Thanks Scott! This will help me get through Moby-Dick a LOT easier!

Moby-Dick is about a guy named Ishmael. He is the narrator of the story. Ishmael and a friend go on a whaling ship. Their captain, Captain Ahab, wants to go after a white whale. That white whale is Moby-Dick. Moby-Dick tried to kill Captain Ahab after he harpooned him. After they find Moby-Dick, the crew tries to kill Moby-Dick with harpoons. Moby-Dick instead crushes the boat. Everyone dies, except Ishmael.

Unlike Moby-Dick, the Maui dolphins can’t fight back man. It is man that pushes to drill oil in their habitat. It is man that uses deadly gill nets to fish in their small sanctuary. The New Zealand government won’t recognize the urgent needs of the Maui dolphins… and ignore the advice of Dr Slooten and the IWC - International Whaling Commission. I wish the New Zealand Government would follow the advice of the scientists. If nothing changes, the Maui dolphins will be extinct. They are the smallest cetacean on earth and will be a tragic loss. Maui dolphins will be left to pay the price for their greed.
