Demand Action: Clear the Nets!
Clear Trawling and Gillnetting out of Maui and Hector's dolphin habitat
Demand McDonald's Drop New Zealand Fish
Critical Change Through Consumer Power - Take Action!
McDonald's has an incredible opportunity to influence the outcome of a decades-long battle for New Zealand's native Maui and Hector's dolphins. Extinction or protection - Time is running out with less than 50 surviving Maui dolphins and government regulators who continually mislead public, dismiss the International Whaling Commission and fail to introduce fishing restrictions. Consumer power is the strongest and final option left by industry and government. More than 95% of these treasures drown from trawling and set nets. McDonald's sources a significant supply of its hoki from New Zealand and so supports a seafood industry which has fought and lied to continue the willful drive to extinction in its drive to maximize fisheries revenue. Seafood companies Sanford and Moana New Zealand made an unprecedented announcement in December 2016 by saying they will now "help" save Maui dolphins by ending their use of gill nets in rare Maui habitat from October 2017 - Significantly this announcement included their intention to continue trawling Maui dolphin habitat until 2022, while admitting that their industry has done so for decades.
An immediate and complete ban on commercial and recreational fishing activity in Maui dolphin habitat is required as called for repeatedly by the International Whaling Commission and International Union Conservation Nature Foundation. Apply the pressure required to make it happen. |
Please join NABU International with Ambassador for Maui dolphins and world champion free-diver William Trubridge: Demand McDonald's drop New Zealand fish until Maui dolphins are safe. Urgent calls from conservationists, scientists, marine experts, influential individuals and organizations have been dismissed for well over twenty years. Drop New Zealand fish to save Maui dolphins. Extinction is unacceptable.

We don’t have long to fix this. Saving Hector's & Maui dolphins from imminent extinction is a race against time.
Eliminating commercial and recreational gill-netting and trawling across the species' range is the only way to save Hector's and Maui's dolphins without exception.
